JHA Baden — Club & youth sports
01
Context

The starting point

Jugendhandball Akademie Baden e.V. bundles the youth programs of three clubs — BSV Phönix Sinzheim, TS Ottersweier and TuS Großweier. The website is the home base for parents, players, referees and partners: teams, match reports, standings, sponsors.

As with every project, the engagement started with an honest look at the status quo — and it was quite a sight.

02
Challenge

The challenge

The homepage has greeted visitors with “site under construction” for years. The latest match reports date from December 2022, the “current matchday” still shows the 2022/23 season, and the header image is simply blank. To parents googling the academy for the first time, the club looks inactive — even though training runs every week.

Under the hood it gets more critical: the WordPress runs on a PHP version that stopped receiving security updates at the end of 2022. The theme loads stylesheets over unencrypted HTTP into the HTTPS site (mixed content), HTTP and HTTPS exist in parallel without redirects, Google Fonts load from external servers and the cookie notice knows no real consent — both GDPR construction sites. Add a language mix of “Latest News” and “Read more” on a German club site.

Process

Solution & execution

From audit to relaunch — the plan in four steps.

  1. 01 · Discovery

    Auditing the status quo

Systematically captured the technology, content and structure of the existing site: outdated PHP base, mixed content, missing redirects, GDPR gaps, frozen content. The result drives every relaunch decision — and is the baseline to measure against later.

  2. 02 · Design

    A home for youth handball

A clear structure for what parents and players actually look for: teams, training times, match reports, contacts — plus a presence that makes the three parent clubs visible and gives partners a worthy stage.

  3. 03 · Development

    Modern, secure, maintainable

A technical rebuild with clean redirects, encrypted delivery without mixed content, GDPR-compliant handling of fonts and cookies — and an editing structure that lets the club keep reports and standings current on its own.

  4. 04 · Launch

    Measurably better

After launch, results are measured against the audit baseline: security and technical errors, regional discoverability and how current the content stays in everyday club life.

Results

The results

The project is in progress. The audit is complete and the relaunch plan stands — the new site is being built right now.

Results against the audit baseline follow after launch.
